Discover and Dance

Discover and Dance is a unique and original early childhood dance program where students learn the foundations of dance while developing cognitively and socially. Three levels are offered in this program, “Preschool Combo 1” – 3 yrs., “Preschool Combo 2” – 4 yrs., and “Kindergarten – 1st grade”. Students involved in this program will perform in their very own end of year “Discover and Dance” Recital!! This is a wonderful showcase exclusively for these young dancers – only about 1 hour long! A wonderful program unique to our dance studio!

We are thrilled to be partnering up with Baby Baby Long Island to bring this new program to our young dancers. Classes are specially designed with toddlers in mind. Dancers can start from 18 months or independently walking through to 2 1/2 years of age, and have been developed to encourage the confidence of expression through movement whilst learning the ballet basics in a fun and nurturing atmosphere. The 30 – minute structured classes offer a magical introduction into the world of ballet, engaging children in age-appropriate dance, whilst learning rhythm, posture, co-ordination and balance through a fun, structured class. Registration for this class must be done directly with Baby Ballet Long Island. Please contact them directly for more information including dates and prices. This is a non recital class.

Preschool Combo 1: 3 yrs.
(Must be 3 by Dec. 1st) - Ballet/Tap - 45 min class

Our Preschool 1 program is specially designed to provide children 2-3 years of age with a strong foundation in dance and movement. Various props including rhythm sticks, beanbags and hoops are incorporated into the class.  Our program teaches the young dancer the basic elements of movement and dance: space and how we relate to it, both as an individual and as a member of a group; the eight basic loco-motor movements; musical rhythm, beat and time; opposites and directions; and elementary ballet and dance steps.  These concepts are explored through new and innovative themes every month.  Students learn beginning tap steps, combinations and how to count music.  Tap enhances rhythm and foot articulation.

Pre-school Combo 2: 4 yrs.
(Must be 4 by Dec. 1st) - Ballet/Tap – 45 min class

Our Pre-school 2 program is specially designed for our pre-school students 3-4 years of age. Tap fundamentals are explored during the first portion of class.  Students continue to learn new tap steps, combinations and how to count music.  Tap enhances rhythm and foot articulation. The second portion of the class focuses on beginner ballet technique.  The children learn their basic ballet positions, balance, port de bras (arm movements), and beginner ballet steps. Students learn new dance concepts through a specialized theme introduced every month.

Acrobatics: 4 yrs.
(Must be 4 by Dec. 1st) - NON RECITAL CLASS - 30 min class

This is a perfect introduction class for your tiny tumbler! Acrobatic movements are combined with dance steps as students learn the fundamentals of movement and timing with tumbling.  Dancers will work on overall control, flexibility and strength building exercises.  Dancers will work on basic floor tumbling skills, handstands, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, bridges, backbends, etc.

Kindergarten - 1st Grade Programs

Ballet/Tap/Jazz Combo

Children enrolled in this program further their tap education by developing an outstanding sense of rhythm and musicality. They are also introduced to the correct disciplines of the ballet barre, ballet positions, body alignment, and center floor work. Students are introduced to basic Jazz technique, including warm-up, across the floor and combination work. Dancers perform two routines at the end of year recital.

Acrobatic/Hip Hop Combo

Acrobatic movements are combined with dance steps as students learn the fundamentals of movement and timing with tumbling.  Dancers will work on overall control, flexibility and strength building exercises.  Dancers will work on basic floor tumbling skills, handstands, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, bridges, backbends, etc. Hip Hop is a blend of today’s high-energy “street style” movement.  Typically performed to popular music, this style of dance has been very sought after by any dancer looking to have a great time!  The style boasts that everyone is capable of taking part and having fun! Careful consideration is taken when selecting music for this age group.
